Our Work: Partnership
Since its inception, the Council on Virginia's Future has worked with several key partners, particularly in the development and ongoing maintenance of its signature initiative, Virginia Performs. The Council also works with additional partners, consultants, and scholars when researching high-priority issues, developing material for Futures Forums and special projects, and creating new assessment tools.
Virginia's Department of Planning and Budget (DPB) is a key state agency within the Executive Branch of state government. The Department of Planning and Budget has been a critical partner to the Council, particularly in its development of the state's strategic planning and performance budgeting system, available through the Virginia Performs website.
Its primary duties include:
- Executive budget development and analyses for the Governor's Office
- Budget analysis, fiscal and regulatory oversight, and budget implementation for state agencies and institutions
- Development and implementation of strategic planning processes for strategic planning, performance measurement, evaluation, and performance budgeting within state government
How well Virginia's state agencies fulfill their core missions and address service or performance issues is a key part of the larger performance cycle which the Council helps to monitor.
UVa's Weldon Cooper Center
The University of Virginia's Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service is a research and training organization focused on the Commonwealth of Virginia. Economic analysts at the Weldon Cooper Center are an integral part of Virginia Performs, particularly the data and analysis behind the 50 societal indicators found on the Virginia Performs website. Staff from WCC work closely with Council support staff in the development and ongoing management of this content.
The Center provides data, applied research, technical assistance, and practical training to state and local officials, community leaders, and members of the general public.
Virginia Workforce Council
The Virginia Workforce Council (VWC) is a business-led board that acts as the principal advisor to the Governor and provides strategic leadership to the state regarding the workforce development system and its efforts to create a strong workforce aligned with employer needs. The VWC was a key partner in the development of the new Virginia Workforce System Report Card.
The Workforce Council also implements the federal Workforce Investment Act in Virginia, setting policy and standards for local Workforce Investment Boards and One Stop Centers.
Virginia Chamber of Commerce
The Chamber of Commerce educates its members on important business-related concerns; advocates for its legislative priorities during General Assembly sessions; and hosts events for Virginia's leaders on issues such as energy, healthcare, and education and workforce.
Blueprint Virginia is expected to help build consensus on economic priorities for the state and its regions and to advance business-focused issues among leaders in the private and public sectors.
